Elder Bathing Program on Bizu
Event Overview
At the break of dawn on the sacred day of Bijhu, a fading tradition found new life ?
Once, collecting fresh river water at dawn and bathing the elders was an essential part of the Biju celebrationβan expression of respect, gratitude, and cultural continuity. As this beautiful custom gradually began to disappear, Youth Save A Smile Foundation took a heartfelt initiative to revive it through the beginning of "The Festival of Hills' Souls".
Wearing traditional attire, the foundation members first offered flowers to the river and then had the honor of bathing two respected elders. The activity was led by Media and Publication Secretary Jashaswiny Chakma and Senior Member Tultuli Chakma, whose guidance made the event meaningful and well-organized. Other members are Kohi Chakma, Tojon Chakma, Audry Chakma, Alokito Chakma.
After the ritual bath, blessings were received from the elders, followed by the presentation of traditional pinon, gamcha, and seasonal fruits as tokens of love and respect.
Traditions survive not only in memory, but through practice.
With this humble effort, we hope to keep our roots alive and pass them on to the next generation ?
